Do you think they have any idea?

A couple of weeks ago I was walking my dog, Hampton, around Lake Merritt. This is the walk we take when I don't want to go to the hills and get dusty or don't feel like taking on the hills, want to keep Hamp clean that day, or maybe it's just getting too dark and Lake Merritt is the best place to get in three miles and not worry about the sun going down.
This was that kind of day, the sun beginning to go down, and we were walking from the west, past the old Oakland Auditorium, toward the south corner. As we turned from the south corner and headed east, with 1200 Lakeshore on our right, I looked across the lake, toward Harrison and Grand where the new Archdiocese of Oakland is under construction.
Something about the time of day and the angle of my view and the light illuminating the middle candle wick-like structure in view through the entryway, one of my favorite body parts lit by the sun and on display half mile away.
The boy in the boat larger than life and unmistakable. I wonder if they had any idea during the design phase what they were giving life to for those of us circling the lake and having a clear direct view straight in to the cathedral.
